5 Vastu Shastra Tips to Attract Prosperity Into Your Home

Your home is more than four walls — it is a living energy field. These five Vastu principles, drawn from classical texts, can meaningfully shift the flow of prosperity, health, and harmony in your space.

Every home carries an invisible architecture of energy. Vastu Shastra — the ancient Indian science of spatial harmony — teaches us that the direction, placement, and proportion of each room directly influences the wellbeing of its occupants. After more than a decade of site visits and consultations, I have seen these five principles make the most tangible difference.

1. Keep the North-East Corner Clean and Open

The North-East (Ishaan) corner is considered the most sacred zone in Vastu. It governs wisdom, spiritual growth, and the flow of positive energy into the home. Clutter, heavy furniture, toilets, or shoe racks in this zone block the very channel through which blessings enter. What to do: Keep this corner light, open, and ideally place a small prayer space or a bowl of water here. Even removing unnecessary objects from this zone can shift the energy noticeably within days.

2. Ensure Your Main Door Faces North, East, or North-East

The main entrance is the mouth through which your home receives energy from the universe. A door facing North brings financial opportunities. East brings health and vitality. North-East is considered supremely auspicious for both. What to do: If your main door faces South or South-West and you cannot change it, a Vastu expert can suggest specific remedies — including threshold symbols, metal strips, and corrective colours — that significantly reduce adverse effects.

3. Place the Kitchen in the South-East

Fire (Agni) governs the South-East direction. The kitchen, being the domain of the fire element, belongs here. A kitchen in the North-East disturbs the sacred zone; one in the South-West creates health disturbances for the female members of the household. What to do: The cook should ideally face East while cooking — this alone is a powerful Vastu correction even when the kitchen placement is not ideal.

4. Sleep with Your Head Pointing South or East

The Earth has a magnetic field running from North to South. Sleeping with your head pointing North creates a subtle electromagnetic conflict, which over time can disturb sleep quality and circulation. East promotes clarity and fresh energy; South promotes deep, restful sleep. What to do: Simply reorient your bed. This is one of the easiest Vastu corrections — and one of the most immediately felt.

5. Keep the Centre of Your Home (Brahmasthan) Free

The Brahmasthan is the central zone of the house, ruled by Brahma — the force of creation. In classical Vastu, this space must be kept open, unobstructed, and free of heavy columns, toilets, or storage. Blocking it suppresses the creative and vital energy of all family members. What to do: Avoid building a staircase, toilet, or pillar at the geometric centre of your floor plan. If you are at the design stage, leave this zone as an open courtyard or a light atrium.

These five principles are a starting point. Every home is unique — its age, construction material, plot shape, and the birth charts of its occupants all influence the final Vastu prescription. If you would like a personalised assessment, I offer both in-person site visits in Karnal, Haryana and online consultations for homes across India and worldwide.
